Two of Council’s priority road renewal projects are both slated to begin construction early in the new year.
The design and estimate of kerb and channel works for Churchill Avenue and Webb Street in the Ararat township are now complete, with construction slated to begin on 6 January 2025 and undertaken in-house. Along with the kerb and channel activity, sections of footpath and upgrades to the drainage network are also planned.
Once these renewal works have been completed, both sections of road will be resurfaced.
This $1.5m reconstruction project is supported by the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery Program.
The second project earmarked to begin in the new year is the new asphalt footpaths for Barkly and Queen Streets in the township centre.
The tender for the works was awarded to Fulton Hogan in September, with construction originally scheduled to begin last month. The project was initially delayed due to permit complexities but is now confirmed to commence on 7 January 2025.
The Barkly and Queen Streets works are delivered under Council’s Capital Works Program, as part of the $400,000 going towards the Footpaths and Cycleways initiative.
“A well-maintained road and footpath network is essential for the safety, accessibility, and overall quality of life in our community,” says Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison. “Council is absolutely committed to ensuring that our roads are safe for motorists and pedestrians, that our footpaths and cycleways meet high standards, and that we are maintaining those standards across our community’s infrastructure.”
