Ararat Rural City residents are being urged to prepare their properties for the upcoming bushfire season, following the Country Fire Authority (CFA) announcement of the 2024/25 Fire Danger Period.
The Ararat Rural City fire restriction period for 2024-2025 commenced on 18 November 2024, and will conclude on 1 May 2025.
Both the Ararat North and Ararat South regions, as defined by the CFA, will be subject to the same fire restrictions period.
More information, including detailed maps outlining these regions, can be found at: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/fire-bans-ratings-and-restrictions
Ararat Rural City Council officers have commenced conducting property inspections for bushfire hazard reduction compliance across the municipality.
These annual inspections are intended to promote public safety and assist residents in preparing for the fire danger period.
Dr Tim Harrison, CEO of Ararat Rural City Council, highlighted the shared responsibility of Council, authorities, and residents in planning and preparing for the bushfire season.
“Council strongly encourage all residents to prepare now for the upcoming fire season by starting with a clean-up around your property and ensure that you have an updated fire survival plan in place,” he said.
Tips for preparing properties include:
- Keeping grass on and around your property to a low and neat level (under 100mm in height)
- Ensure there are no overhanging trees on buildings
- Collect and remove leaves, small branches and other fine fuels from your property
- Remove leaf litter from roofs and gutters
- Have plans in place for your family in the event of an emergency
