Grants program to empower community groups now open

Community organisations helping to build inclusive, connected and vibrant communities are encouraged to apply for a funding boost, thanks to Ararat Rural City Council. Applications are now open for the latest round of the Community Grants Program.

The program proudly supports community-led projects that increase participation in sport and recreation, access to the arts and culture, protect the local environment or development of new events. Ararat Rural City Chief Executive Dr Tim Harrison said in 2022/23 Council awarded over $25,000 amount to community groups and clubs to support local projects.

“Our rural communities place a high value on community connection, participation and volunteerism," Dr Harrison said.

"Council's Community Grants Program is really about supporting local groups with funding for minor upgrades, maintenance to facilities, or purchasing of new equipment; helping to ensure they are functional and accessible for years to come.

"Community groups and organisations seeking to boost their programs are encouraged to apply for funding to support their next project.”

The previous round of grants saw funds awarded to Moyston Public Parks for the installation of a new security camera system at Moyston Recreation Reserve and Gum San Heritage Centre to support the installation of new benches.

Friends of Gum San president Henry Gunstone noted the importance of the grant program to the Ararat community.

"Ararat Rural City Council's community grants program enabled the Gum San committee to replace two old benches in the courtyard of the facility, to enable a more relaxed space for visitors to enjoy.

"Our committee appreciates the assistance provided by council staff in the application process - it is important to the Ararat community that this grant program continues." Ararat Rural City Community Grants provide funds on a 2:1 ratio, ranging from $5,000 for major events and $3,000 for small projects.
