Ararat Rural City Council Recognises Vital Role of Community Asset Committees

Ararat Rural City Council oversees the management of numerous community facilities throughout the municipality, including sporting grounds, recreation reserves, community centres and halls.

To effectively manage these facilities, we collaborate with our Community Asset Committees (CACs), who assume direct responsibility for overseeing specific community properties and facilities on behalf of the Council in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020.

Our CACs are made up of local volunteers who are entrusted with the functions, duties, and powers necessary for the operation of their respective community facilities. Participation in a CAC empowers community members to actively manage and upkeep the facilities they utilise, fostering community ownership.

Council deeply appreciate the dedication of these committee members, and took time during this month’s Council Meeting to recognise the significant contributions they make.

“Our Community Asset Committees continue to do great work in our community in a range of different ways,” says Ararat Rural City CEO Dr Tim Harrison. ”They are fantastic, hard-working people who do a phenomenal amount of work on a voluntary basis. Without their passion and energy, our community life would be greatly diminished.

“They provide a range of vital sport, recreation and community services, particularly in the smaller communities across the municipality. The February bushfires in and around our towns of Pomonal, Buangor, Warrak, Mt Cole and Elmhurst highlighted the importance of community assets and good community relationships within our smaller communities.

“Our CACs have been instrumental in supporting our community through the fire recovery process.”
