Major improvement works at Tatyoon Recreation Reserve Sports Oval have reached the final stages, with works scheduled for completion by the end of this month.

The installation of a new drainage system, which will significantly improve the drainage of the oval's turf and avoid the need for costly and disruptive reconstruction, is underway. This stage of the project will significantly enhance the quality of the playing surface as well as reduce maintenance requirements. 

Winter sports can significantly impact the oval’s playing surface, as wet weather and cold temperatures hinder grass growth and recovery, often leading to muddy and unstable playing surfaces that can impact player performance. The new drainage system will ensure a dry and resilient playing surface that will withstand the demands of year-round sporting activity.

Electrical and irrigation works, as well as the installation of a new pump and tank were carried out late last year. Surface upgrades and new line markings will complete the final stages of the project. 

This $330,000 project is supported by an $80,000 contribution from Ararat Rural City Council, together with $250,000 in grant funding allocated under the Victorian State Government’s Country Football and Netball Program. 

This program is part of a $2.5 million Victorian State Government initiative to assist regional football and netball clubs, associations, and umpiring organisations to develop their facilities and increase participation among disadvantaged and under-represented groups.
