Robert Tommasini Retires from Council’s Audit and Risk Committee

Robert Tommasini has retired from Council’s Audit and Risk Committee, having served more than five years in the official body.

Tommasini’s first meeting was in June of 2019; as a long-serving member of the committee, he will be very missed by the group.

The purpose of the Audit and Risk committee (required under the LG Act) is to support Council in discharging its oversight responsibilities related to financial and performance reporting, risk management, fraud protection, maintenance of a sound internal control environment, assurance activities (including internal and external audit), and Council's performance regarding compliance with its policies and legislative and regulatory requirements.

The appointment of independent members to the Committee enables the Committee to provide advice to Council on matters related to its responsibilities based on broader skills and experience than might otherwise be the case, and in doing so brings additional benefits to Council.

“It has been a pleasure to have served as an independent member of the Audit and Risk Committee at ARCC over the last five years,” Tommasini says. “The highlight during my term has been to observe Council’s focus on and commitment to continuous improvement in its governance structures and practices. In particular, Council, CEO and Officers are to be commended for their efforts and significant achievements in the areas of risk management, staff professional development, and the embracing of new and sector-leading ideas and technological opportunities.”

Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said:

“It has been a great privilege to have Robert as a member of Council’s Audit and Risk Committee. His depth of experience, knowledge and eye for detail have brought great insight to the Committee and taught me a great deal in my role as CEO. Robert’s warmth as a person and gentle humour have made working with him a great experience.”
