Pomonal’s Resilience Shines in Volunteer Clean-up

Pomonal’s Wildflower Drive surged with a sea of blue shirts across Friday, Saturday and Sunday last week, as DRA – Disaster Relief Australia – put their backs into another week of fire recovery volunteering.

Over the three months since bushfires hit Pomonal on February 13, the area has become a hive of spirited activity, as the tireless work from volunteer bodies continues.

The weekend’s projects offered the perfect opportunity for community members to jump in and lend a hand. Residents are eager to aid volunteers as the groups move clean-up efforts through Robins Road, Springwood Hill Road, Chery Tree Road, and other affected areas of the district.

Over the last week, DRA - along with the Hansen Yuncken team - moved forward with demolition and removal of debris from properties via the Emergency Recovery Victoria clean-up program. Pomonal has also received immense support from BlazeAid, whose volunteers have been diligently rebuilding or replacing fences with the tenacity which has characterised this recovery effort.

“The community’s resilience is on show here, through the remarkable dedication of volunteers and residents,” says Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison. “This is the extraordinary power of our community spirit.”
