Christmas and New Year 2024/25 services: Council will continue serving the community during the Christmas and New Year period, though there will be some changes to services such as waste collection. See all the details of holiday period service arrangements.

Nominations to stand as a candidate in the 2024 Ararat Rural City Council elections open on Monday 9 September 2024.

Election offices will be open for nominations during business hours from Monday 9 September until 12 noon Tuesday 17 September.

To prepare, prospective candidates can 

  • complete mandatory candidate training online through LGV at localgovernment.vic.gov.au/council-governance/candidate-training
  • call 131 832 from Monday 9 September to book a nomination appointment
  • complete their nomination forms using the VEC’s Candidate Helper at vec.vic.gov.au/council-candidate 

Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to watch the online video series about nominating as a candidate at youtube.com/@electionsvic

Prospective candidates must make an appointment during business hours to lodge their nomination forms in person and pay their $250 nomination fee. They must be able to provide evidence that they have completed the mandatory candidate training online through Local Government Victoria (LGV).
