A new mural was unveiled at Willaura Supermarket on Tuesday, supported by Ararat Rural City Council’s Façade Grant Program. The mural is the work of local artist Willow Ingram and features a treasure hunt of local wildlife as well as the iconic farming property Edgarley.
“I have wandered throughout the Shire, quietly observing and gathering inspiration from what you see here in front of you” Willow said. “What a beautiful palette of a Shire we live in, surrounded by mountains and flora and fauna so unique”.
Mayor Bob Sanders, was pleased to be a part of the official unveiling, commenting ‘I love that Council can support these sorts of things.’
Willaura Supermarket owner Robyn Thackeray was delighted to welcome the local community to morning tea to celebrate the unveiling. “I hope it’s around for longer than me and that the community can enjoy it for many years to come” Robyn said.
The project was funded by Council’s Façade Grants program, which offers local businesses the ability to maintain the region’s great heritage buildings and to refresh their stores. Council have supported over fifty local businesses with their façade enhancements since the grants scheme started, as part of an effort to improve street appeal and support those looking to open a new or expand their existing business.
“From the outset, Council has been committed to improving our recreation, tourism, and streetscapes to transform our town into a welcoming regional hub” Ararat Rural City Council Chief Executive Dr Tim Harrison said.
