Ararat Rural City Council is pleased to share its Draft Governance Rules for 2025 - 2027.
Council are committed to good governance and ensuring all decision-making processes are fair, transparent and merit based.
These Governance Rules have been developed to reflect this commitment, and in accordance with section 60 of the Local Government Act 2020.
By adopting and adhering to these Governance Rules, Council can ensure that its commitment to good governance and the overarching governance principles consistently guides its decision-making processes, and those of its delegated committees and officers.
These Governance Rules will be reviewed biannually from the date of adoption or after a Council Election.
Following a Council resolution at the Tuesday 25 February 2025 Council Meeting, Ararat Rural City Council now seeks community consultation on its Draft Governance Rules 2025 - 2027.
“Our dedication to good governance hinges on impartial and unambiguous decision-making,” says Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Jo Armstrong. “That's why we carefully develop and regularly review Council’s Governance Rules, and we’re asking our community members to provide their valuable feedback. By engaging with this process, you're helping us ensure that our decisions, and those of our officers, are always guided by the highest standards of equitable governance."
This project's engagement window will close on Wednesday 19 March 2025 at 5pm; Council will review all submitted community feedback at the Tuesday 25 March 2025 Council meeting.
