New businesses in Ararat Rural City can apply for financial support to secure a shop front in Ararat’s CBD, under Council’s Kick Start Grants scheme.

To ease the financial burden of setting up shop, this initiative provides new businesses with a grant of up to $2,500 to support their move to a commercial premises.

New bridal boutique, Haylee Maree Bridal, is the latest recipient of the grants scheme, with a shopfront now operating by appointment in Ararat’s Barkly Street. The boutique features handcrafted gowns from their in-house label, Hayley Maree, as well other popular bridal brands. 

“I saw an opportunity to open a bridal shop in Ararat, and the level of interest we've received so far has been really encouraging” says shop owner Haylee. “I wanted to create a welcoming space where every bride, regardless of budget, could find their dream dress and feel confident and beautiful on their special day.”

In addition to the Kick Start Grant, Council have also supported over fifty local businesses under the Façade Improvement Grants scheme, which awards grants of up to $10,000 on a 2:1 basis, offering local businesses the ability to refresh their business frontages. 

These funding schemes are part of an ongoing effort to improve street appeal, maintain the heritage of local buildings, and support those looking to open a new or expand their existing business. 

“We envision a bustling CBD that attracts visitors, boosts our local economy, and supports the growth of our business community” said Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Jo Armstrong. 

“By supporting new and existing businesses, these initiatives not only enhance our region’s offerings but also present an exciting opportunity for businesses seeking a thriving location to establish themselves or expand their operations."

Applications are now open Kick Start Grant are available until the end of the financial year, offering a limited-time opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs. 

Façade Improvement Grants applications will remain open until all available funds are exhausted in 24/25 financial year.
